Generic Headshot Profile
Senior Director of Threat Operations
Huntress

Chris Henderson

An information security leader dedicated to safeguarding small businesses and enabling communities.

Chris Henderson oversees internal security at Huntress, ensuring the company stays ahead of emerging cyber threats. He also leads the threat intelligence group Adversary Tactics and the Product Security Researchers team, translating threat intelligence into product capabilities and features.

His journey into cybersecurity began unexpectedly. "(It started with) the initial Diablo game. I was frustrated by being so terrible at it, but I learned how to manipulate the local save files to give myself a boost. It completely changed the way I thought about computers and applications," Chris recalls.

Chris holds degrees in both Psychology and Computer Science and is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP). Before transitioning into IT and security, he worked as a social worker. "While it may seem like a big leap, a lot of the interpersonal skills from social work made security change management significantly easier to navigate," he notes.

Prior to joining Huntress, Chris spent his entire technical career in the Managed Service Provider (MSP) space, notably at Datto. His expertise includes building scalable, agile, and engaged teams driven by data, specializing in compliance, business continuity, security operations, supply chain risk, and sales enablement.

What's your favorite cybersecurity tip, Chris?

"Always assume malicious intent. The current state of the world has made it easier than ever to launch a very convincing social engineering attack. Due to this, you should assume every inbound form of communication is malicious until you know for certain otherwise."

Outside of work, Chris enjoys photography, board games, and electric skateboarding. He’s also a named inventor on the patent "Systems and methods for detecting ransomware infection", which seems relevant.
